Walter S. Hudson, Sr. HICKORY Walter Samuel Hudson, Sr., of Hickory, died at his residence Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012. Born in Lincoln County Dec. 9, 1931, he was the son of the late Samuel Monroe Hudson and Hattie Jane Lail Hudson. He was a member of Bethel-St. John's United Methodist Church and was a long time employee of Sherrill Furniture Co. Walter served in the Army as part of the Korean conflict and was a former member of American Legion, Post 48 in Hickory. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Milladean Hudson; brothers, Johnny C. Hudson, Summie Hudson, and Amos M. Hudson; and sisters, Velma Craig, Esmer Deal, Mavis Bumgarner, and Pearly Craig. Walter is survived by his son, Walter S. Hudson, Jr. and wife, Tina, of Mt. View; daughters, Mary Lynn Hudson, of Conover and Joan Elizabeth Hudson, of Maiden; and brother, William Hudson and wife, Jeanette, of Granite Falls. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at Bethel-St. John's United Methodist Church in Hickory, with the Rev. T. Steven McLain officiating. Burial, with military rites, will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Bethel-St. John's United Methodist Church, 2805 Kool Park Rd., NE, Hickory, NC 28601.
