Alice Blackburn HICKORY Mrs. Alice Koubek Blackburn, 87, of Hickory, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at Catawba Regional Hospice. Born October 5, 1925, in Berea, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Victor and Iona Mary Koubek. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Prof. Thomas H. Blackburn. She was a graduate of Lenoir Rhyne College. Mrs. Blackburn was employed by NASA in Cleveland, Ohio, and retired from Jenkins Elementary School, in Hickory. Alice was also an active volunteer for her church and many community organizations. Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Erd-man, of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; a son, Bruce Blackburn and wife, Cynthia, of Hickory; two grandchildren, Shannon Carr-illo, of Fayetteville, Amy Cooper and husband, Jeff, of Cherryville; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Carrillo and Jacob Carillo; nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and many friends. The family will receive friends, prior to service, at First United Methodist Church, in Hickory, Saturday, Nov. 3, at 10 a.m. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., after the receiving, with the Revs. Robert Roach and Rick Schilling officiating.
