Ronard Elrod HICKORY Ronard Earl Elrod, 93, of Hickory, passed away Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at Catawba Regional Hospice. Born Jan. 16, 1919, in Watauga County, he was the son of the late Ed Elrod and Josie Nelson Elrod. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Pearl Crumley, Eva Moody, Belle Holman and Jewel Matthews. Mr. Elrod was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, where he received the American Defense Service Medal, American Theater Service Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. He is survived by his sister, Georgia Wood, of Blowing Rock; son, Douglas Elrod, of Titusville, Fla.; daughter, Barbara Wilson, of Sarasota, Fla.; grandson, Chris Wilson, of Boone; granddaughter, Rolanda Farant, of Titusville, Fla.; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
