Gerald "Steve" Carter HICKORY Gerald Stephen "Steve" Carter, 66, passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, unexpectedly at Frye Regional Medical Center. Steve was born Sept. 17, 1946, in Catawba County, to the late Richard Lee Carter and Gladys Sigmon Carter. Steve retired from Rodan Inc. and was a U.S. Air Force veteran in Vietnam where he served three tours of duty. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife, Rebecca "Becky" Lail Carter, of the home; a daughter, Amanda Carter Edwards and husband, Ryan, of Hickory; a son, Andrew Stephen Carter and wife, Cheslie, of Mooresville; granddaughter, Kaylin Carter; grandsons, Luke and Austin Carter, of Mooresville; grandsons Grant and Carter Edwards, of Hickory; brothers, Marshall Lee Carter and wife, Ruby, of Alexander County, and Russell D. Carter and wife, Kay, of Maiden; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 4 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. William B. Trexler officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the church fellowship hall. Internment services will be held at 3 p.m., prior to the memorial service, at Catawba Memorial Park and Military Graveside Honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 16.
