Anita B. "Pat" Smith Obituary

LITCHFIELD - Anita B. "Pat" Smith, 93, long time Litchfield resident, passed away Saturday May 21, 2016, at MacRitchie North in Hillsdale. Born August 29, 1922, in Tekonsha, she was the daughter of Frank J. and Myrtle (Wagoner) Green. Pat was a 1940 graduate of Homer High School and Jackson Cosmetology in 1941.

She had been employed at Domestic Industries in Albion, Jenkins Golf Course in Litchfield, Coldwater Hospital Aid, Kearns Clothes Closet in Litchfield, and Hayner's Jewelers in Litchfield.

Pat was a member of the Litchfield United Methodist Church since 1952 and served in many positions. She taught church school for many years, was on the team of Albion District UMW, and past president of the Litchfield United Methodist Women.

She also was a member, former treasurer, and president of Hillsdale County FCE, member of Litchfield Belles Study Group (HCFCE), Sorosis Club, and the hospice organization of New Beginners. In addition, she was a 4-H sewing leader for many years and a member of the Litchfield Historical Society.

Pat enjoyed crafts, painting oils on canvas and china, playing Euchre and other games, sewing, knitting and traveling. She and her husband were avid campers.

On January 24, 1942, she married Marion "PeeWee" Smith, and he preceded her in death in 1994. Pat treasured her family, which includes two daughters, Pamela (John) Purdy of Litchfield and Vivian Kenney of Perry; three sons, James (Cherilyn) Smith of Litchfield, Daniel (Debi) Smith of Litchfield and Roger (Vicki) Smith of Onondaga; one sister, Charlene Rogers of Green Valley, Arizona; 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Pearl Green; sister, Wilma Gregg; infant twin brothers, Everett & Eugene Green; grandson, Paul Cooley, Jr., great-granddaughter, Molly McNew; and son-in-law, Tom Wilmer.

Funeral services will be held Thursday May 26, 2016, at Litchfield United Methodist Church with Reverend Julie Yoder Elmore officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, Litchfield. Visitation is scheduled Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Litchfield. Memorials are suggested to Litchfield United Methodist Church or the Litchfield Historical Society.
