Mrs. Antoinette DePew "Toni" (Merchant) Caldwell Obituary
Antoinette DePew "Toni" Caldwell, 89 of Jonesville, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility. She was born May 22, 1927 in Hillsdale to Harold and Winifred (Holland) Merchant. Toni married James W. Caldwell Sr. on January 13, 1952 and he preceded her in death on July 6, 1995.

Toni graduated from Jonesville High School in 1944 and from Hillsdale College in 1948. She taught school for many years in Quincy and Jerome Schools and she also subbed for Jonesville Schools. Toni was a member of the Jonesville First Presbyterian Church for over 72 years where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She volunteered for the Buddy Reading Program, was a grandmother mentor for many children and was a member of the Happy Seniors. Together with her husband Jim, she enjoyed volunteering for the Jonesville Booster Association and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports. Toni was an avid reader and she enjoyed word search puzzles.

Toni is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Terry) Groves of Jonesville and Valerie (Greg) Myers of Osseo; two sons, James W. (Michelle) Caldwell Jr. of Litchfield and Harold (Connie) Caldwell of Jonesville; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one sister, Carol (Tom) Kent of Buchanan, Michigan and two brothers-in-law, Bob (Judy) Caldwell of Ft. Wayne and Lee (Donna) Caldwell of Portland, Oregon.

In addition to her husband, Jim Caldwell Sr., Toni was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan in 1963; grandson, Joey in 1977 and her brother and sister-in-law, Ben (Margie) Merchant.

Funeral services for Toni Caldwell will be at noon on Saturday at the Jonesville First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Lynne McQuown officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset View Cemetery in Jonesville. The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to Eagle Funeral Home in Jonesville.
