Bernard C. Crater Obituary
Bernard C. Crater of North Adams, Michigan passed away Friday, November 1, 2013 at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility. He was born May 17, 1923 in North Adams, Michigan the son of Cleve and Olive (Comley) Crater.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean Crater; two sons, Joe and Gerald Crater and one grandson, Chadwick Crater. He is survived by three children, Ronald (Catherine) Crater of Litchfield, Colleen (Thomas) Cavanaugh of Hillsdale and Richard (Roberta) Blakeslee of Ashtabula, OH; one daughter-in-law, Janice (Paul) McNair of Jonesville; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and special friends, Sam Ramey and Leonce Towers.

Mr. Crater served his country with Patton's Third Army on D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge where he received The Purple Heart and he was a member of the American Legion and the D.A.V. He was a lifelong resident of North Adams and for over 60 years he was the largest independent Maple Syrup Producer in the state of Michigan. He was also a very strong supporter of the Lion's Club and worked closely with students from the North Adams-Jerome High School.

Mr. Crater and his wife Jean enjoyed traveling extensively in their motor home throughout the United States and spending most of their winters in Texas and Florida.

A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Bernard C. Crater will be held at the Hampton-Kurtz Funeral Home in Hillsdale on Tuesday, November 5th beginning at 11:00 A.M. Interment with Military Honors, will take place in the Northlawn Cemetery in North Adams. The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday from 4-7 P.M. at the funeral home in Hillsdale. Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the Salvation Army.
