Charlotte E. Stewart Obituary

BATTLE CREEk - Charlotte Stewart, 78, a woman with a great kind heart and longtime resident of Battle Creek, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Bronson Hospital in Battle Creek. She was born April 9, 1938 in Hillsdale to Lloyd and Lois (Rich) Hull. She married her high school sweetheart, James Stewart, on August 26, 1962 and he survives.

Charlotte graduated from Hillsdale High in 1956. The first in her family to obtain higher education, she later graduated from Jackson Business School for Accounting and held an honorary degree from Hillsdale College in support of her husband's education. She worked at Mitchner Platting in accounting and Wagner Industry as an inspector. Charlotte enjoyed being a homemaker, reading, training horses, being in 4H and traveling in the RV seeing 48 states with her family. She also enjoyed crocheting cross bookmarks for veterans and missionaries, attending Echo of Grace activities, being a member of Pine Grove Mennonite Church and signing at the Calhoun County Medical Facility.

Charlotte is survived by her husband of 54 years, James Stewart; sister, Louise (Robert) Warren; niece, Patty Warren and friends, Tom (Ann) Duckworth, Dale, Jill and Levi Burgett, Tom (Leanell) Schwartz, Linda (Paul) Tucker, Lorraine (Robert) Christophel, Eldon Christophel, members of Echo of Grace, members of Pine Grove Mennonite Church and classmates of Hillsdale High School, Class of 1956. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services for Charlotte Stewart will be Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 6 p.m. at Pine Grove Mennonite Church in Battle Creek with Pastor Tom Schwartz officiating. Local memorial services for Charlotte will be Friday, May 6, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Hillsdale Assembly of God Church with Pastor Kevin Phillips officiating. Interment will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
