Clarence Lee Conklin Obituary
Clarence Lee Conklin, 88, of Jonesville, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2014, at the MacRitchie North Skilled Nursing Facility. He was born May 3, 1925 in Hanover to Lee and Grace (Gray) Conklin.

Clarence graduated from Hanover High School in 1943 and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army as a medic in Japan taking care of injured servicemen. He was a machinist for 22 years at Corning Glass Works in Albion; where he earned his journeyman's card and was nicknamed "Doc" because of his top notch skills. Upon Corning closing, he was hired at Hayes Albion, before accepting a job at GM Hydramtic in Three Rivers, where he retired. Clarence was always working on his tractors, gardening, refinishing furniture, and cutting wood. He enjoyed going to his children's and grandchildren's sporting events and was proud of all of their accomplishments. He enjoyed hosting family reunions with camping, ball games and wagon rides back to the woods. Clarence was a member of the Jonesville United Methodist Church and Jonesville American Legion Post 195. He wasn't involved in a lot of organizations, but always had God's love in his heart.

He met his wife, Ellen Houseknecht, at the Mosherville Grange square dancing. They married on August 28, 1954 and she survives. Also surviving are three children; Jeffrey Conklin and Josie Snyder of Jonesville, Joe (Carol) Conklin of Round Lake Beach, Illinois and Mary Alice (Bruce) Bell of Quincy; seven grandchildren, Adam and Emily Bell, Joey, Jason, Katie, Nicholas and Julie Conklin; a sister, Maxine Wells of Jonesville and two brothers, George Conklin of California and Hugh (Joan) Conklin of Jonesville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Lois Bohn and one brother, Keith Conklin.
