Clarence McConnell Jr Obituary
Clarence McConnell Jr., 91 of Hillsdale, passed away September 18, 2017 at MacRitchie North Skilled Nursing Facility in Hillsdale. Jr. was born August 26, 1926 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan to Clarence and Beatrice (Shepherd) McConnell.
Jr. served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII, stationed in Japan.
On June 27, 1947, Jr. married the love of his life, Monica Neff. They lived life to the fullest raising four children, enjoying square dancing, motorcycling, traveling and lots of fishing. Married for 56 years, Monica preceded him in October of 2003.
In 1966, Clarence founded McConnell & Scully Inc. Oil Well Servicing in Homer, Michigan, which he ran until his retirement. Jr. then co-owned and co-managed the White River Camp Ground in Cotter, Arkansas. Together with family, he also owned and worked with Thorny Ash Development LLC and Oak Haven Party Store in Hillsdale, Michigan.
Survivors include a daughter, Jackie (Tom) McNicholas of Hillsdale; two sons, Roger McConnell of Flippin, Arkansas and Ron (Maurine) McConnell of Three Rivers; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Nancy (Bob) Sibary of Arcadia, Michigan and four brothers, Fred (Carol) McConnell of Luther, Michigan, Pat (Patsy) McConnell of Cadillac, Michigan, Tom McConnell of Luther, Michigan and Jack (Dorothy) McConnell of Weidman, Michigan.
In addition to his wife, Monica, Jr. was preceded in death by a son, Randy McConnell; grandson, Tommy McNicholas; four sisters, Lena Ruth Mumy, Alli Ma Wilson, Anna Bell Smith and Judy Nichols; one brother, Roy McConnell and a daughter-in-law, Danna McConnell.
Funeral services for Clarence McConnell Jr. will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 22, 2017 at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Brian McConnell officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset View Cemetery in Jonesville. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5-8 p.m. Thursday and on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service, at the funeral home.
