Creg Mervin Keefer Obituary
Creg Mervin Keefer, 63, of Osseo, passed away quietly in his chair at home, on Sunday, February 19, 2017. He was born June 15, 1953 in Wauseon, Ohio to Carl A. and Carrol (Brandeberry) Keefer.

Creg was a 1971 graduate of Hillsdale High School. He earned varsity letters his Junior and Senior year on both the wrestling and football teams where he played center. During the summer of 1971, he lost control of his legs while bailing hay. Within a year, he underwent a medically "first ever" spinal cord surgery at University of Michigan Hospital where doctors removed a 17 inch malignant tumor from inside his spinal cord which started at the base of his brain down. After six months of morning to night rehab at UofM, he wheeled his wheelchair in a 26 mile marathon. Creg continued to improve, eventually walking with a long "stick". Over the course of the last 10 years, his spinal cord continued to atrophy, eventually returning him to his wheelchair. Creg enjoyed hunting, fishing, promoting for Buffalo Jams and watching Michigan State University athletics. Creg had many lifelong friends that he dearly loved and the family would like to say thank you for the decades of love and support shown to him. Creg will also be fondly remembered by the hundreds of friends he made while working at area convenience stores where he worked for over 20 years, most notably Team One Food Store and Broad Street Market.

Survivors include his father, Carl A. (Alice) Keefer; three siblings, Carl L. (Karen) Keefer, Coe (Karen) Keefer and Cristen Keefer; two nephews, Isiah (Alison) Keefer and Noah Keefer; five nieces, Amanda (Wesley) Frazier, Katie Keefer, Allyson (Jarrod) Konz, Tonya Keefer and Clarrisa Rogers; three great-nephews, Conner Frazier, Mason Konz and Kamden Konz and one great-niece, McKinley Keefer.

Creg was preceded in death by his mother, Carrol Keefer and two nieces, Charity and Jillian Keefer.

Funeral services for Creg Keefer will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Steve Wismar officiating. Interment will follow later that day at Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in Hillsdale.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Perennial Park Senior Center. Please visit www.eaglefuneralhomes to leave online condolences.
