David Lee Nelson Obituary
David Lee Nelson, 77, of Hillsdale, Michigan passed away peacefully Monday, May 15th at home surrounded by loved ones. He was born February 6th, 1940 in Tracy, Minnesota to Eshter and Oscar Nelson, both of whom he joins in heaven with Our Heavenly Father.
As a young man, David served in the United States Air Force. Upon returning to civilian life he was a handyman for General Electric and Easy Living working on modular homes; there wasn't anything the man couldn't fix.
After retirement, David could be found playing cards, watching the news and enjoying a cup of coffee.
He was a history buff and would often give free lessons to anyone that would listen (mainly the high school friends of his youngest children). David was also a passionate soul who enjoyed painting, gardening, fishing, travel, watching a NASCAR race on Sunday afternoon and spending time with his children and grandchildren. As a father and grandfather, he was very nurturing and eager to recount his childhood and share stories up until the wee hours of the morning.
David is survived by "the woman who jumped in his back pocket and never jumped back out", Betty Russell, with whom he shared 36 beautiful years. During that time he was an extremely dedicated father and elaborate "gloater" when it came to talking about his daughters, Mary Carpenter (Ernie), Kimberly Marquart (Eric), Jessica Nelson and Sarah Nelson (Lee Bowen); as well as one son, Jacob Nelson (Mallory Marlowe). He also has three sons from a previous marriage; David, Tracy and Chris. He is also survived by his sister Betty Meyer, as well as several grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceeded in death by his siblings, Juleen, Howard, Ruth, Jeanette, Carol, Richard, Bob and Janice.
In lieu of flowers, should friends and family desire, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
