Donald E. May Obituary
Donald E. May, 95 years old, of Hillsdale, Michigan passed away Monday, February 10, 2014 at his home. He was born December 11, 1918 in Dayton, Ohio to John and Hope (Thompson) May.

He was a member of the Hillsdale United Brethren Church since 1934. He graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1938 and attended Hillsdale College after which he served in the United States Army Calvary Division at Fort Riley Kansas and many other Calvary Camps. Don had a long career life in retail selling, first working for the Buchanan Company Department Store in Hillsdale then moving to Smith Shoe Store for a number of years. After that he worked for Allied Products for several years before moving to his own furniture store which he opened in 1952, known as May's Furniture in Jonesville and serving there for 50 years until his retirement.

He was a loving father, loving husband and loved and served Jesus in many ways. He was on the first United Brethren Church Board, the Building Committee and served as an Usher. He was also on the Michindoh Camp Board, and served as a Trustee at Huntington College and worked as a class leader of the United Brethren Church.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Neva Pifer May to which was born three sons, namely, Philip A. May of Jonesville, Douglas E. (Lynne) May of Hillsdale and Michael Gregory (Sharon) May of Carlsbad, CA.

In 1971 he married Nan (Altizer) May and she survives. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Ryan (Shannon), Bethany, Matthew and Mitchell (Portia) May; two great-grandchildren, Braylen and Natalia May and two step-grandchildren, Alan (Tera) and Vince Morris.

A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Donald E. May will be held at the Hampton-Kurtz Funeral Home in Hillsdale on Thursday, February 13th beginning at 7:00 P.M. with Ken Kurtz officiating. A graveside interment service will follow on Friday at 10:00 A.M. at the Lakeview Cemetery in Hillsdale. The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday from 5:00 P.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home in Hillsdale.
