Donald Gene Traxler Obituary

MONTGOMERY - Donald Gene Traxler, 83, of Montgomery, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2016, at MacRitchie North in Hillsdale. Born September 23, 1932 in Camden MI, he was the son of Alva and Corda (Mocherman) Traxler.

Gene graduated from Montgomery High School in 1951 and served in the Michigan National Guard for 10 years.

He worked at Corning Glass in Albion for 24 years and at the Reading Community Schools, retiring in 1992 on the same day as his wife, Pat, retired. Gene was a member of the Montgomery United Methodist Church, Camden Lions Club, served 17 years on the Montgomery Street Department, was a board member of the Montgomery Village Council for over 45 years.

He donated his Council wages to the Montgomery Village Park. Gene also coached the Montgomery Pirates for several years and was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener, and fan of the Detroit Tigers. He and Pat belonged to the Jayco Camper Club.

On January 13, 1952 he married Patricia (McDonald) and she preceded him in death in 2012.

Survivors include two sons, Gregory Traxler of Montgomery and Bradley Traxler of Camden; one sister, Mary Horney of Empire MI; one brother, Richard Traxler of Camden; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to his wife and parents, Gene was preceded in death by brothers, Ronald, Paul, and Lawrence Traxler, and sisters, Wanda Jackson, Laura Walp, Luella Shaughnessy, Bessie Sharp, Edith Boyer, and Leona McElhenie.

Visitation is scheduled Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel, Reading. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., at the Montgomery United Methodist Church with Pastor Phred Cain officiating. Interment will follow in Berg Cemetery, Montgomery.

Memorials are suggested to the Montgomery United Methodist Church or the Montgomery Fire Department.
