Frances Clara (Koch) Fry Obituary
Frances Clara Fry, a long-time resident of Hillsdale, died on Sunday, December 18, 2016 in the home where she and her family resided since 1948. Frances was born January 19, 1916 to Frank and Clara (Heidt) Koch in Tuscola County, growing up in Millington, Michigan.

After graduating from high school, Frances moved to Detroit and lived there for nine years, working as a nanny and housekeeper and for several businesses in Detroit.

Frances married Emil Miller Fry on May 5, 1945 after a two-year courtship that began at a bus stop in Detroit while both were on their way home, she from work as a secretary at Eureka Vacuum and he from the Detroit College of Law. They settled in Hillsdale where Frances enjoyed the rewards of life in the country. Her days were filled with raising four children, gardening, fishing and ice skating on King Lake, and making weekly batches of bread and applesauce.

Frances was especially gifted in math. She helped in Emil's law practice in tax preparation, and she could always be counted on to assist her children with their math homework. She loved the Detroit Tigers and was an avid fan who listened to every game on the radio.

Frances was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving on many committees over the years and singing alto in the choir every Sunday. She enjoyed her work with PTA groups and several local clubs during her long life in Hillsdale, and especially valued the friendships and bonds made with the Hospice New Beginnings group she participated in after Emil passed away in 1992.

Frances was predeceased by her husband Emil; her son, David; her siblings, Louise Palmreuter, Beatrice Reinert, Ralph Koch, Lyle Koch, Earl Koch, Robert Koch, Dorothy Heuchert and Helen Heuchert and two granddaughters, Kristyn Fedosuk and D'zshenae Green.

Frances is survived by son John (Andrea) Fry; two daughters, Linda (Ivan) Fedosuk and Ruth (Ed) Lape and daughter-in-law Paula Fry. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life for Frances Fry will be conducted at the College Baptist Church in Hillsdale at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2016 with Reverend Jessica Hahn officiating. Interment will follow at King Lake Cemetery in Hillsdale Township. The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. at College Baptist Church. Arrangements are entrusted to VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
