Frank E. Green Obituary
BRADENTON, Florida - Frank E. Green, 97, passed away Aug. 25, 2015 at his home in Bradenton, Florida. He was born on July 14, 1918 to Seward and Mable Green of Hillsdale County, Michigan. Mr. Green graduated from Reading High School and attended Michigan State University studying agricultural engineering and commercial fruit growing. He continued the family business becoming the owner and operator of Green's Orchard with his wife, Vera L. Lawyer (nee Roose), whom he married on Feb. 22, 1947. Green's Orchard became regionally known for retail apples, peaches, pears and plums. Mr. Green remained active in the retail and wholesale fruit business for 48 years, specializing in dwarf trees and becoming active in the Michigan Fruit Tree Association.
Frank and Vera Green raised three daughters, Judy (deceased 2012), Charlotte, and Debra. The family spent much of their summers in Ludington, Michigan, at the family cottage where Mr. Green became an avid fisherman and enjoyed boating and hiking. Mr. Green traveled extensively with his wife and family visiting all 50 states, most Canadian provinces, Mexico and several Caribbean Islands. He retired with his wife in 1975 living in both Michigan and Florida. An avid boater, in 1982, he traveled the intercostal waterways circumnavigating the area from Ft. Lauderdale to the St. Lawrence Sea Way, through the Great Lakes and returning to Ft. Lauderdale via the Mississippi River, Gulf of Mexico and Lake Okeechobee – 2523 miles on the water.
Following Vera Green's death in 1989, Frank Green married Vivian Gage, his high school friend, in 1991, sharing 11 years together until her death in 2002.
Along with his parents and both wives, Mr. Green was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Gaberdiel, and daughter, Judy Uhlin. He is survived by his brother, Norman Green of Quincy, Michigan; children, Charlotte Schryer and Debra Kosko; grandchildren, Silas Schryer, Marne McCoy, and Seth Uhlin; great-grandchildren, Lilly McCoy with a second great grandchild anticipated in February of 2016.
Frank Green will be laid to rest at the family vacation home in Ludington, Michigan surrounded by generations of our loving family.
