1933 - 2017 Obituary Condolences
Franklin Delano Roosevelt "Frank" Preston Obituary
Franklin "Frank" Delano Roosevelt Preston went home to be with his Lord on March 11, 2017 at home. He was born March 4, 1933 to Milburn and Lillian (Pickford) Preston in Rome Center Township, Michigan. Frank was born on Inauguration Day so his parents were eager to name him after the new president "Franklin Delano Roosevelt." He attended Pittsford School then enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Utah Proving Grounds. He did factory work at Hillsdale Foundry, worked at Game Time and also was a custodian for Pittsford School District.
He was an avid member of the Hillsdale Free Methodist Church. He loved the Lord. He also had a love for animals, especially his dogs and pet chicken. He loved to sit outdoors on the porch swing with his chicken in his lap.
Family meant a lot to him. He married Delores Bernath on December 17, 1960. He gladly welcomed in her three sons after her previous husband passed away tragically and accepted them as his own children. He and Delores also adopted a daughter which he loved dearly. He leaves behind his wife, Delores Preston; three step-sons and one daughter, Donald Trombley of Hillsdale, Rodney (Cindy) Holmes of Florence, Wisconsin, Robert Dean (Paulette) Holmes of Osseo and Shirley (Danny) Whitaker of Osseo; brother, Delbert Preston; sister, Ella Mae Sheffer; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and another great-grandchild due any day.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Fred and Glenn Preston; half-brother, Lawrence Stanley and three sisters, Marybelle Swain, Phyllis Mason and Betty Barnett.
Funeral services for Franklin Preston will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Keith Porter officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Bankers Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
The family asks to please refrain from sending real flowers due to breathing issues of close family members. Instead, donations are suggested to Hillsdale Free Methodist Church. Please visit www.eaglefuneralhomes.com to leave online condolences.
