Fred L. McMullen Obituary
Fred L. McMullen, 90, of Hillsdale, passed away Friday, January 10, 2014, at the Hillsdale Community Health Center.

He was born November 3, 1923, in Hillsdale, the son of Andy and Myrtle (Webb) McMullen. Fred married the love of his life, Dorothy VanVoorhis, on October 8, 1950, and she survives.

Fred attended Hillsdale Schools and was formerly employed at Allied Products, Ford Motor Company, and Dana Corporation. Fred served his country in the US Army during WWII in the "Big Red One" (1st Division), 18th Infantry, in the European Theater and during the Battle of Bulge, where he received many medals for his service. He was a member of the Hillsdale First Baptist Church, Disabled American Veterans, and a former member of the NRA and Michigan Air Patrol. Fred was a private pilot who enjoyed flying in air shows. He also enjoyed hunting and canoeing.

In addition to his loving wife of 63 years, Dorothy McMullen, Fred is survived by three daughters, Karen (Andy) McMullen of Hillsdale, Linda (Robert) O'Leary of Newark, Ohio, and Kimberly McMullen (Dennis Berry) of Center Line, Michigan; grandson, Thomas (Michele) Ferro and great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Ferro of Holt; sister, Lena Walsh of Allen; niece, Judy (Maurice) Zuver of Osseo; nephew, Mike Walsh of Allen; special family friend, Doug Ryan of Hillsdale, and his beloved golden retriever, Willy.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; a niece, Virginia Hyatt; nephew, Richard Walsh, and brother-in-law, Richard "Cy" Walsh.

There will be no services or calling hours for Fred McMullen at this time. Graveside services will take place at California Corners Cemetery in Branch County at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.

Memorials are suggested to the Greater Hillsdale Humane Society or the Hillsdale First Baptist Church.
