Frederick James Knowles Obituary
Frederick James Knowles, 82, of Hillsdale, passed away Monday, February 6, 2017 at his home. He was born December 6, 1934 in Scottville, Michigan to Orvin "Fred" and Alma (Sullivan) Knowles. Fred married Joyce Green on June 5, 1954 and she survives.

Fred graduated from Big Rapids High School and he spent many years working in the saw milling, timber buying and logging industries. He was the owner and operator of Knowles Timber Company in Hillsdale for many years. Fred was a member of the Hillsdale Free Methodist Church, Gideon's International and former member of the Lions and Kiwanis Clubs. He enjoyed watching sports, including UofM and Indiana University; however, his favorite sports to watch were his grandchildrens. Fred was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at his cabin in Paradise, Michigan.

In addition to his wife, Joyce, Fred is survived by four children, Randy (Melissa) Knowles of Coldwater, Kevin Knowles of Monroe, Mark Knowles of Hillsdale and Cheri (Steve) Clyde of Charlotte, Tennessee; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Rachel Knowles and sister, Lucille Lee.

Funeral services for Frederick Knowles will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Hillsdale Free Methodist Church with Pastor Keith Porter officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsdale. The family will receive friends for visitation from 6-8 p.m. Friday at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
