Garry M. Sarles Obituary

JONESVILLE - Garry Maxwell Sarles, 95, of North Adams, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility. He was born May 1, 1920 in Jonesville, the son of Lewis and Ethel (Wise) Sarles. Garry married Elaine Scheetz on March 24, 1946 and she survives.

Garry was a graduate of Jonesville High School in 1938. He served his country in the US Army during WWII. Garry retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 39 years of service. He was a member of the Jonesville United Methodist Church, former United Methodist Men's Club Treasurer, Jonesville American Legion, Veteran of the Year in 1993, member 40& 8 since 1948, Life-Member of North Adams VFW, Village President of North Adams for 11 years, Past President of North Adams School Board, Hillsdale Elks Lodge Member since 1979, Elk of the Year in 1991 & 1992, Elks Lodge Officer of the Year in 1999 & 2000, South Central Elks Lifetime Achievement Award in April of 2001. He also enjoyed working with Boy Scouts for 20 years and was named Scouter of the Year for Maple Leaf District in 1969.

Surviving besides his wife of 70 years, Elaine, are three children, Jo Ann (Dean) Scharp of North Adams, Stephen (Becky) Sarles of Onsted and Colleen (Robert) Smith of Jackson; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Garry was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services for Garry Sarles will be Monday, April 11, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home in Jonesville with Pastor Jennifer Ward officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Sunset View Cemetery in Jonesville. Visitation will be Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at the funeral home.
