George Dean Newell Obituary
George Dean Newell, 85 of Osseo, passed away Friday, February 10, 2017 at Drews Country Living in Hillsdale. He was born March 29, 1931 in Ransom Twp., Michigan to James and Mabel Winifred (Hivley) Newell. Dean married Sally Young on December 22, 1951 and she survives.

Dean graduated from Osseo High School in 1948 and he served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Japan. He worked for Consumers Power for 20 years and then for Addison Products for four years. In 1974, Dean went to work full time for his electrical company, Newell Electric. Upon his retirement from Newell Electric, Dean also enjoyed working as an electrical inspector for many years. He served as a trustee on the Jefferson Township Board for two terms and he was a member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge.

In addition to his wife, Sally, Dean is survived by a son, Steve (Brenda) Newell of Osseo; two grandchildren, Leslie (Brandon) Goss and Charles (Amy) Newell, both of Ypsilanti; three great-grandchildren, Trenton, Trevor and Reagan Newell; sister, Phyllis Price of Asheboro, North Carolina and brother, James (Evelyn) Newell Jr. of Jonesville.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Virginia Harmon and Mazel Welch and three brothers, Donald, William and Louis Newell.

Funeral services for George Dean Newell will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Clyde Wonders officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at East Hill Cemetery in Osseo. The family will receive friends for visitation on from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
