Helen Thielen Obituary

HILLSDALE - Helen M. Thielen, 87, of Hillsdale passed away Sunday, February 21, 2016 at the MacRitchie North Skilled Nursing Facility in Hillsdale. She was born March 13, 1928 in Racine, Wisconsin to Edmund and Frances (McBride) Ruenzel. Helen married James Thielen on April 28, 1951 and he preceded her in death on November 11, 2015.

Helen graduated from St. Catherine's High School in Racine, WI, Class of 1947. At one time, Helen was an avid golfer and continued to follow the game in spirit when her playing days ended. She was an accomplished bridge player and kept up with the latest books and novels. Helen was an enthusiastic Green Bay Packers fan a pastime she shared with her late husband, James. She was a member of the Hillsdale Golf & Country Club and St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale.

Survivors include five children, Claudia Stachowiak of Michigan City, IN, Rebecca (Scott) Bingman of Springport, Michael (Julie) Thielen of Fortville, IN, Mark (Judy) Thielen of Ellicott City, MD and Robert Thielen of Reading; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings.

A memorial mass for Helen Thielen will be held Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale with Father David Reamsnyder officiating. Interment will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
