Hugh C. Conklin Obituary

JONESVILLE - Hugh C. Conklin, 89, of Jonesville, passed away Monday, February 15, 2016 at the Community Health Center of Branch County in Coldwater. Born December 22, 1926, in Moscow Township, he was the son of Lee and Grace (Gray) Conklin. He was a 1945 graduate of Hanover High School and served in the U. S. Army during WWII. Hugh had been employed at Stocks Mill in Hillsdale, Kiddie Brush &Toy Company in Jonesville, and retired in 1997 from Klein Tools in Jonesville. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, fishing, ice fishing, and bird watching. He also loved nature walks with his children and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Hugh is survived by his wife of 60 years Joan Rachel (Houseknecht) Conklin, whom he married April 30, 1955: two sons, Edward (Wendy) Conklin of Litchfield and Daniel (Nellie) Conklin of Jonesville; one sister, Maxine Wells of Jonesville; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lois Bohn, and three brothers Keith, Clarence, and George Conklin.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Litchfield with Pastor Robert Finegan officiating. Interment with military rites will follow in Johnson Cemetery in Jonesville. Visitation is scheduled Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Hillsdale County Senior Services Center or Health & Home Service of Jonesville.
