JAMES M. THIELEN 1926-2015

HILLSDALE - James M. Thielen, 89, of Hillsdale, passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. He was born May 6, 1926 in Racine, Wisconsin to Michael and Margaret (Groenke) Thielen. James married Helen Ruenzel on April 28, 1951 and she survives.

James graduated from William Horlick High School in Racine, WI in 1944 and went on to attend the University of Wisconsin, Indiana University and Chicago University before earning his Bachelor or Arts Degree from Marquette University. He was the Executive Vice President of Alsons Corporation in Hillsdale before retiring in 1993. James served his country in the US Navy during WW II and was a former member of the Hillsdale American Legion, Hillsdale Elks Lodge, Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus and the Hillsdale Golf & Country Club. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.

Surviving besides his wife, Helen are five children, Claudia Stachowiak of Michigan City, IN, Rebecca (Scott) Bingman of Springport, Michael (Julie) Thielen of Fortville, IN, Mark (Judy) Thielen of Ellicott City, MD and Robert Thielen of Reading; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Thomas.

Memorial services for James Thielen will be Friday, November 13, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale with Fr. David Reamsnyder officiating. Interment will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
