1933 - 2017 Obituary Condolences
Jane Annette (Lewis) Girdham Obituary
Jane Annette (Lewis) Girdham passed onto her heavenly home, September 20, 2017. She was born September 25, 1933, the oldest child of Maureen (Stout) and John Kayle Lewis. She married John Roger Girdham December 26, 1950 and they were married for over 60 years.
They raised their family in Reading, Michigan before moving to their home in Coldwater Township.
Surviving are her children, Georgia (Phil) Handy of Quincy, Gerald Girdham of Coldwater, Sandra (Steve) Amos of Hillman, Thomas Girdham of Adrian, Timothy Girdham of Coldwater and Mark (Terri) Girdham of Montgomery; 20 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Jane worked hard at home raising six children and caring for grandpa Girdham during his final days. She was a seamstress for the local dry cleaners and babysat for several children, making the breakfast table large enough to feed 12 children each morning. When her youngest child started Kindergarten Jane got a job at Wagner Industries in Reading. She later worked at Coldwater Service and at Star of the West in Quincy where she retired at the age of 67 as a result of a serious injury preventing her from climbing stairs at the mill. Prior to her employment at the mill, they had no ratings with the State of Michigan for cleanliness. She was very proud of the fact and instrumental in maintaining the mill to consistently receive high ratings from the state. She will be remembered as a very hard worker, never missing a day and always willing to help the guys at the mill regardless of the task. Jane played basketball in High School and was a majorette in the band. She also lettered in basketball during high school.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 2011; sisters, Melanie, Jean and Sharon; brother, Chuck and two grandchildren.
A memorial service for Jane Girdham will be at 2 p.m. Monday, September 25, 2017 at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Reading with Reverend Alan Fenstermaker officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday at 1 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
