Janice L. Wilcox Obituary

WALDRON - Janice L. Wilcox passed away at her home on Thursday, December 10, 2015 in Camden, Michigan due to complications following lung cancer. She was 62. Janice was born on August 25, 1953 in Saginaw, MI to her parents, Elmer and Barbara Dey. She married Ward W. Wilcox III on September 17, 1971. They met as a blind date and shocked family members when everyone realized they were dating. Janice and Ward lived in Saginaw, MI where they raised four beautiful children. They spent a few years in Defiance, Ohio, and returned to Michigan where Janice said was always home.

Over Janice's life the one thing we all can agree on is she loved family. She loved the chance to get together with everyone. Janice loved to bake and cook, she loved being in the kitchen making sure everyone had enough to eat. She also enjoyed camping where all the kids would want Aunt Jan to sing and tell stories around the camp fire. One of Janice's favorite memories from camping was sitting around the camp fire with her brother Bill, playing the guitar and singing along with her. Another highlight Janice enjoyed were the girl weekends with her sisters. They could never have too much fun, playing Pictionary, watching love stories, shopping and especially making Margarita's until 2 a.m., even staying up hours after the younger crowd went to sleep. Janice looked forward to her brothers and sisters in-law and out-law pig roasts year after year and as we all know, they were the talk of the town for the next year. Janice loved to spend warm nights around the fire pit in the back yard sipping on a cold beer with her boys. A huge milestone for Janice is when she went back to school and got her diploma. But the most enjoyable moments for Janice over the last 44 years were spending time with her best friend, Ward. Whether it was cubical time or riding on the back of the Harley, Janice didn't care what they were doing as long as they were together.

Janice is survived by her husband, Ward W. Wilcox III; four children and their spouse, Ward IV "Skip" (Jennifer), Chad (Misty), Nathan (Margo) and Taya (Christopher); 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters and brothers and their spouses, Sheila (Wayne), Rebecca "Becky" (Howard), Dawn (Randy), Robert "Bob" (Deb), Ken (Belinda), Neica, Lynn, Gerald (Mary), Kitty Ann, Jane and Linda.

Janice was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara; her father, Elmer; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ward and Blanch; brothers, Elmer, Jr. "Chip", William "Bill", Ralph "Rick", James, Lonny, William and Jerry and a granddaughter, Delilah Wilcox.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Hampton-Kurtz Funeral Home (3380 W. Carleton Road, Hillsdale, MI 49242) on Saturday, December 19th from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. A memorial service, with a dinner, will follow at Salem Mennonite Church (13751 South Tripp Road, Waldron, MI 49288) beginning at 3 p.m. with Pastor Ned Wyse officiating.
