Jean Ardell (Jenkins) Dieterle Obituary
Jean Ardell Dieterle, 85, of Hillsdale, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Henry Ford Allegiance Health, Jackson, surrounded by loving family. She was born August 24, 1931, in Woodbridge Township to Vern and Elora (Hauer) Jenkins. She married Edward F. Dieterle on July 28, 1951.
A 1949 graduate of Hillsdale High School, Jean went on to attend Cleary Business College in Ypsilanti. She & Ed were co-operators of the Cities Service Oil Company, Bulk Plant Operations in Hillsdale for many years. She also clerked for Hayes-Handy Furniture, Hillsdale; Fiebig's Jewelry, Jonesville; for over 20 years with the Hillsdale County Fair Board; and was an Independent Sales Consultant for Dutch Maid Clothing for over 25 years. Jean was a long-standing participant with the Hillsdale Extension Club, the Quester's Club, the First United Methodist Church and Women's Society, the Hillsdale City Election Board, and the Daughters' of the American Revolution (DAR).
Jean was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved working with her hands and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, and more! She had a passion for genealogy research and spent many years volunteering at the Mitchell Library Research Center compiling many of her own family tree branches, as well as work for others.
Survivors include four children: Linda Tyler of Hillsdale; Susan L. (Bernie) Davies of Melvin, MI; Nancy (Rich) Landers of Crossville, TN; and Vern (Lisa) Dieterle of Reading; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson on the way; a sister, Barbara (Frank) Novack of St. Augustine, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Bruce L. Herendeen; and her husband of 64 years, Edward, on July 28, 2015.
Funeral services for Jean A. Dieterle will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Pat Brook officiating. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsdale at a later date following cremation.
