Jean M. Bishop Obituary
Jean M. Bishop, 92, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2014 at her home near King Lake in Hillsdale after suffering a stroke on January 1st.

She was born in Reading, the daughter of Arthur and Laura (Blair) Bishop.

She graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1938. When WWII started she worked in Ypsilanti for Ford Motor Company as a riveter on the bombers and on January 8, 1943 she enlisted in the Women's Army Air Corp and was Cpl 3rd Air Div. 8th Fighter Command and worked as an Information Center Operator. While serving in Normandy Northern France, Ardennes Rhineland Central Europe, and Air Offensive Europe Campaigns, she was awarded the Silver Battle Star and Bronze Battle Star. Jean was honorably discharged on Sep. 15, 1945.

After her separation from the Army she entered college in Grand Rapids in pursuit of a secretarial certificate. In 1954 after the death of her sister, Winnifred Bishop Runnells, she helped her father, Arthur raise her sister's children, Evelyn, Anita and David. Jean also worked in the Office of Registrar at Hillsdale College where she retired in January of 1986. Jean loved gardening, quilting and sewing. She attended the Hillsdale First Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Arthur and Laura; siblings, Alfred Bishop, Ruth Bishop, Martha Reed, Winnifred Runnells and William "Bill" Bishop.

Jean is survived and missed by her nieces Evelyn (Paul) Crouse of Reading, Anita (Rich) Weston of Newton, IA, Laura Howard of Nebraska, Grace (Reed) Owens of Tennessee, Wendy (Bishop) Stephan of Texas; nephews, David G. (Paula) Runnells of Hillsdale, Doug (Ginny) Bishop of Traverse City, Steve (Lynn) Bishop of Phoenix, Kelley (Lucia) Bishop of Texas, Jim (Becky) Myers of Arkansas and several great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Jean Bishop will take place at a later date. A

rrangements are entrusted to the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Hillsdale County.
