John R. Powell Obituary
John R. Powell, 71, of Jonesville, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Hillsdale on March 26, 1946 to Rae & Irene (Henning) Powell.
John was president of Rainbow Oil & Gas and Powell Productions in Jonesville. He was a graduate of Jonesville High School, class of 1964 and received a degree in Agriculture from MSU in 1966. John was a former member of FFA, he was very involved with his sons doing several activities which included bowling, coaching little-league baseball in Jerome and helping raise animals when the boys were in 4-H.
Survivors include his three sons, Matt (Jenny) Powell of Jonesville, Derek (Renee) Powell of Illinois and Ryan (Mandi) Powell of South Dakota; seven grandchildren; his loving companion, Jackie Ladd-Robison; siblings, Kay Jean Blagec of Dundee, Sharon Laughlin of Maybee, Linda Powell and Meredith Balcom, both of Jonesville, Alma Cross of Allen and Robert (Jackie) Powell of Jonesville.
John was preceded in death by his parents, brother Scott and a son, John Aaron in infancy.
Funeral services for John Powell will be at 3 p.m. Friday, January 19, 2018, at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Pastor Bob Finegan officiating. Private family interment will take place at North Lawn Cemetery in North Adams. The family will receive friends for visitation Friday from 12 p.m. noon until services at 3 p.m., at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the John Powell Memorial Fund.
