John W. Fouty Obituary

NORTH ADAMS - John W. FOUTY, age 92 of North Adams, MI passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 under the care of Countryside Care Center of Jackson and Great Lakes Hospice.

He was born February 5, 1924 in New Port Richey, Florida.

John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara, whom he married on November 10, 1946. His father, Vern, mother Winnifred Fouty-Fulghum, Art Fulghum, brothers Vern and Eugene, sisters Mary, Donna and Vivian: along with many other family members, friends and WWII veterans.

He served in the US army with the 81st Cav Recon Troop in the South Pacific from December 1942-February 1946, radio operator. He received two battle stars and a bronze arrow. He served in the Army Reserves till January 1963. John then joined the US Naval Reserves in September 1963 to September 1971 and retired as Chief Petty officer in the Seabees.

John was a Past Master of Masonic Lodge #32 and Past Patron of Order of Eastern Star Wenona Chapter # 162. He is a member of American Legion Post # 360. He worked in various factories before working for and retiring from Peerless Gear in Clinton, MI in 1986. He served as a past Justice of the Peace and was still an active member of Wheatland Township Board.

He is survived by three sons, Gregory W. (Ruth) Fouty of Horton, Douglas J. (Ann) Fouty of Mackinaw City, Steven J. of North Adams; two daughters, Brenda A. (James) Todoroff of Bay City and Beth M. (William) Stokka of Jackson. He was the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren and the great grandfather to seven. Sisters-in-law, Catherine Smith of Plymouth and Margaret Halleck of Hillsdale along with many nieces and nephews.

Per his wishes cremation has taken place. A Graveside Memorial Service will take place at the Somerset Center Cemetery and a luncheon will follow on Saturday, June 25, 2016 beginning at 11 a.m. with Pastor Eric Sass officiating.

The family wishes to thank Countryside Care Center and Great Lakes Hospice for their dedicated and wonderful care.
