Kenneth Harold Duryea Obituary
Kenneth Harold Duryea, 82 of Jonesville, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017 at the McGuire Skilled Nursing Facility in Hillsdale. He was born September 27, 1934 in Reading to Ralph Kenneth and Florabelle (Richardson) Duryea. Ken married Elinor "Ellie" Sulla on August 18, 1956 and she survives.
Ken graduated from Reading High School and he received his bachelors degree from Hillsdale College where he was also a member of ATO. He formerly worked for Montgomery Wards in Hillsdale and later in retail management for many years. Ken retired from State Farm Insurance Agency in Hillsdale after nearly 35 years of service. He was a member of College Baptist Church, Hillsdale Elks Lodge #1575 and longtime board member of the Hope House in Jonesville. Ken loved the outdoors; especially golfing, hunting, fishing and sailing. He also enjoyed flying under his private pilots license; reading, especially westerns; playing cards and music of all kinds. Ken will be remembered as a faithful Christian, loving husband, devoted father and beloved friend.
In addition to his wife of 60 years, Ellie, Ken is survived by a daughter, Mary (Dave) Woods of Marshall; two sons, Mark (Kathy) Duryea of Reading and Phillip (Diane) Duryea of Broadview Heights, Ohio; six grandchildren, Rachael Duryea, Leslie Duryea, Luke (Tiahna) Duryea, Kelsey Duryea; Katie Murphy and Ryan Murphy; four great-grandchildren, Jaeden, Lainey, Hailsey and Westin and one brother, Arthur (Janice) Duryea of New Town Square, Pennsylvania.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Connie Atherton.
Funeral services for Kenneth Duryea will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 22, at College Baptist Church in Hillsdale with Pastors Ben Cuthbert and Leonard White officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at Allen Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
