L. Karleen (Luce) Marsh Obituary
L. Karleen Marsh, 82, of Reading, passed away Monday, September 4, 2017 in Kalamazoo after a brief illness. She was born October 18, 1934 in Coldwater to Otto and Ferne (Matz) Luce. Karleen married Dale Marsh on June 24, 1956 and he preceded her in death on June 5, 1994, 19 days before their 38th wedding anniversary.
Karleen was a lifetime resident of Reading. Her family founded the Reading Home Dairy and she and her sisters were a part of the business. She graduated from Reading High School in 1952. Karleen had been employed at Hillsdale College for 15 ½ years and with the Reading City office for 9 years. She was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hillsdale and a member of the Reading United Methodist Church.
Karleen was an avid reader. It was not unusual for her to be hoarse after watching a MSU basketball and/or football game. She enjoyed a good game of Michigan Rummy, 31 and Pinochle at the family cottage. Last fall she enjoyed a cross country train trip with her daughter Lisa. She was very proud to see her children and granddaughters all graduate from college. Desserts were guaranteed to put a twinkle in her eyes- even in her final days.
Karleen is survived by son, James (Susan) Marsh of Hillsdale Township; daughters, Christy (Russell) Clock and Lisa (Kevin) Kenz both of Kalamazoo; sisters, Delores Fowler of Hudson, Clela Bauer of Athens, Rosalyn Wolfsen of Houghton Lake and Sandra (Marvin) Risedorph of Grant. She was an active part of her three granddaughters lives, Jessica (David) Wissemann, Bridgette (Ryan) Crawley and Adelaide.
In addition to her husband, Dale, Karleen was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Denise Luce.
Funeral services for L. Karleen Marsh will be at 11 a.m. Friday, September 8, at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Reading with Reverend Alan Fenstermaker officiating. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, September 7, at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to 100 Woman Who Care (Reading Chapter), Reading United Methodist Church or Hospice of Southwest Michigan.
