Mrs. Laurine (Bechler) Kies Obituary
Laurine J. Kies, 77, of Hillsdale, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2016, at the home of her daughter in Jonesville, surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 29, 1939 in Detroit to Arthur and Isabella (Hunter) Bechler. Laurine was married June 28, 1958 to Robert Kies and he survives.

Laurine was a graduate of Jonesville High School, class of 1957. She started her working career at J.C. Penny in Hillsdale. She was later employed at the former Hennesney Drug Store, now known as Nash Drug Store working in the Hillsdale, Jonesville and the Market House locations. She was an active member of the Hillsdale Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School and leading the G.A. Girls. She also helped her husband Bob as assistant cemetery sexton at both Hillsdale and Moscow Twp. Cemeteries. Laurine was known as the "Beautification Lady" in Hillsdale during the 70's and 80's. Laurine was a volunteer for the Boy Scouts and Campfire Girls. She loved to babysit her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Laurine was an avid sewer, she sewed everything from clothing for her family, to wedding dresses. Her greatest passion was traveling with her husband and family members.

Surviving besides her husband Robert are three children, LaVonna (Scott) Williams of Osseo, Rob Kies of Jerome and Janet Cook of Jonesville; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; three siblings, Mary Parkhill of Somerset, Caroline (Lowell) Sheely and Frank (Beth) Bechler, both of Jonesville; three sister-in-laws, Nancy and Lillie Kies, both of Hillsdale and Marilyn Kies of Jonesville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services for Laurine Kies will be at 2 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2016 at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Dr. Daniel Pann officiating. Interment will follow at Rice Cemetery in Moscow Twp. The family will receive friends for visitation from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
