Leslie E. Clevenger Obituary
Leslie E. Clevenger heard his wife Shirley clearly Monday. He took her hand and stepped into her realm. His eyes are bright and the fog has lifted. He is busy once again. Leslie passed peacefully February 26, 2018 in Jackson, Mi. He was 93.
Les was a gentleman with a perpetual smile and a witty spirit.He practiced the 3 P's Patience,Persistence and Perseverance. Leslie was a genuine nice guy. He was the best father two little girls could have. Les had a curious mind and enjoyed inventing things to make life easier and fun!
He enjoyed his homes,was as an avid gardener and reader. He became an artist at 70,creating copper pipe garden sculpture. Shirley and Les loved traveling and any adventure she cooked up. Les loved working and being busy. His lifetime of work includes: farming,owning the Peggy Lee Restaurant in Ft. Wayne. In Hilldsdale he was a milkman,shoe deptartment manager at Wards for 25 years, shared ownership with the Featherette Beauty Salon,the Palace Cafe and the Hillsdale Motel with his first wife, Betty.
Upon retirement they moved to Charlotte,Michigan and opened Mr. C's Shoes. After they sold the business he worked for Yates Hardware.
Les became single and later married Shirley Crall. They moved to Coldwater, Mi.where she taught. He worked till he was 86,waiting for Shirley to retire. During that time he worked for McDonalds, a factory, and in the bakery deptartment at Walmart.
Leslie is preceded in death by his folks,Lester and Blanche Clevenger, sisters Grace, Evelyn Pease and wife Shirley Crall Clevenger.
He is survived by his daughters Kathleen Goldstein and Debbie (Mike) Baker, brother Oliver "Cliff" (Doris) Clevenger, sister Beth Gordon Lewis, grandson Travis Goldstein and step children Jeff (Laurie) Bisel and LaWren Keatts, granddaughter Becca Keats. He had many nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to his sister Beth for taking Dad into her home after Shirley's death. For three years Beth lovingly helped Dad as he descended deeper into dementia. The last two years he was at Summit Park Assisted Living. The staff was wonderful with him. Deepest thanks.
Leslie will be forever remembered as that handsome man with the beautiful white wavy hair!
A celebration of life for Leslie and Shirley Clevenger will be at 2 p.m. March 24, 2018 at Van Horn Eagle,40 S. Manning St. in Hillsdale, Mi.
