Lewis L. Aemisegger Obituary
Lewis L. Aemisegger, age 92, of Chelsea and formerly of Hillsdale and Sarasota, Florida, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Arbor Hospice in Saline. He was born January 24, 1925 in Camden to Owen and Letha (Mann) Aemisegger. Lewis married Louise DeRose on April 15, 1950 and she survives.
Lewis graduated from Reading High School in 1943 and he received a Purple Heart for his service to his country in the United States Army Infantry during WWII. Lewis founded Hillside Lanes in Hillsdale in 1964 and with his wife, Louise, they owned and operated the lanes until their retirement. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Chelsea and an avid car enthusiast. Lewis was a life member of the Hillsdale American Legion and Hillsdale Elks Lodge. He enjoyed living life at the lake, fishing, boating and Notre Dame sports. Lewis' greatest pride and joy was his family and the times they spent together.
In addition to his wife of 67 years, Louise Aemisegger, Lewis is survived by five children, David (Sherry) Aemisegger of Oldsmar, Florida, Stephen (Kitty) Aemisegger of Hillsdale, Julie Aemisegger of Harrison Twp., Michigan, Thomas Aemisegger of Ocala, Florida and Janet Aemisegger of Chelsea; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Barb) Aemisegger of Toledo; two sisters-in-law, Betty and Phyllis and two brothers-in-law, Joseph Angel and Douglas Freed.
Lewis was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings, Irene, Violet, Dewayne, Alice, Richard and Ron.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Lewis Aemisegger will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 6, 2017 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale with Msgr. Gary Smetanka as celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation from 3-6 p.m. Sunday with a Rosary Service at 6 p.m. at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
