Lois Elaine (Donihue) Piper Obituary
Lois Elaine Piper, 82, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017 at her daughter's home in Hillsdale after a courageous battle with ALS. She was born April 15, 1934 in Hillsdale to Leslie and Estella (Spangler) Donihue. Lois married Joelie L. Piper on January 16, 1953 and he preceded her in death on December 23, 2001.
In 1970, she graduated as the salutatorian of her class from Hillsdale College with a BA degree in Elementary Education. Lois taught 4th grade at Samuel J. Gier Elementary School until her retirement in 1995. Joelie and Lois also owned and operated the Pied Piper Lounge during the late '80's and early '90's. Once retired, Lois enjoyed spending time with family, creating beautiful heirloom quilts and crocheted afghans and traveling.
Lois is survived by her five children, Paul (Sue), Julie and Matt, all of Hillsdale, Mark (Mary) of Jonesville and Joe (Laurie) of Apopka, Florida; five siblings, Ethel Ferguson, Evelyn Kennard, Elizabeth Nall, Barbara Hathaway and Lee Donihue; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and her long-time companion, Jack Hall, who currently resides in The Villages, Florida.
In addition to her husband, Joelie, she was preceded in death by her siblings Clare, Marjorie Crawford and John.
A memorial visitation for Lois Piper will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 16, at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale. Family interment will take place at Sunset View Cemetery in Jonesville at a later date.
