Lucy M. (Monahan) Hartley Obituary
Lucy M. Hartley, 92, of Hudson, passed away December 22, 2013, at her home, under the care of Hospice. Lucy was born January 19, 1921, in Medina Township, to Daniel and Catherine Mae (Malarney) Monahan. On August 12, 1944, she married James L. Hartley Sr. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hudson. He preceded her in death on September 9, 1972.

Lucy was a lifelong resident of the Hudson area, living her entire life on Medina Road. She graduated from Sacred Heart School in 1938, and Lenawee County Normal School in 1939. Lucy taught at the Catholic Hill Country School in Medina Township from 1939 to 1946, leaving to raise her family. After her children were older, she returned to teaching at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Hudson for 20 years, and then substitute taught at the school for an additional 25 years. Lucy truly loved teaching and had a very significant impact on the lives of many of her students.

Lucy was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hudson where she also belonged to the Altar Rosary Society, and the South Hudson Woman's Club.

Surviving are four children, James L. (Deanna) Hartley of Clayton, John M. (Cathy) Hartley of Hudson, Marie Hartley of Hudson, Dennis J. (Jill) Hartley of Adrian; one sister-in-law, Geri Monahan of Hudson; seven grandchildren, Amy, Sarah, Dan, Carrie, Michael (Breanne), Michelle, and Mark; and one great-grandson, Cameron. Lucy was a very loving mother and grandmother, and a beloved aunt to her many nieces and nephews. Nothing was more important to Lucy than her family and her faith.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Betty (Al) Hednrickson, Regina (Jim) Hafner, and Lois (Bernard) Reuter; and one brother, Bud Monahan.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Lucy Hartley will be celebrated on Saturday, December 28, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hudson with Father Joseph Krupp as celebrant. Burial will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Hudson. Visitation will be Friday from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m., with a Rosary Service at 7:30 p.m., at the Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Sacred Heart Catholic School or Hospice of Lenawee.
