READING - Marien Arlene Riggs, 92, of Reading, was born April 23, 1923 to Glen and Bernice (Mohr) Phillips in Hillsdale County, Michigan. Surrounded by her family, she passed away peacefully on October 11, 2015.

Marien was preceded in death by her husband, Dean, and her grandson, Scott Hughes. She is survived by three children; Linda (Steve) Hughes of Williamston, Doug (Patty) Riggs of Battle Creek, and Steve (Carol) Riggs of Marshall; nine grandchildren; Greg (Bridget) Hughes, Jay (Rachael) Riggs, Kristi (Lauren) Hughes, Josh Riggs, Mark Hughes, Nikki (Luke) Roberts, Paul (Terri) Riggs, Joe Riggs, Daniel Riggs, and six great-grandchildren; Norah, Jackson, Penelope, Caleb, Collin, and Casen; one brother, Frank Phillips of Hillsdale; and nieces and nephews.

Marien grew up in Hillsdale where she married Dean in 1946 and they raised their three children. They later moved to Albion where they resided until enjoying retirement at Long Lake in Reading, MI. Marien enjoyed her many years there and loved her lake family. She was an active member of Reading United Methodist Church where she served many years and built wonderful friendships. She worked at Sears in Hillsdale and Albion for many years.

Funeral services will be held at the Reading United Methodist Church on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with Pastor Deb Cole officiating. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Reading. Visitation is scheduled at the church on Wednesday from noon until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Reading United Methodist Church.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel, Reading.
