Maxine G. (Fillmore) Preston Obituary
Maxine G. Preston, 93, of Quincy went home to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, January 24th, 2018. Maxine was born on January 11th, 1925 to Vern and Hazel Fillmore of Coldwater. She was born and raised on the family farm on Fillmore Rd. Her only sibling and her best friend was her sister Wilma, four years her younger, who preceded her in death by 12 days.
Maxine attended Lockwood School and graduated from Coldwater High School in 1943. She married Stanley Preston on March 23, 1944 and the couple has celebrated nearly 74 anniversaries. Stanley and Maxine worked with her in-laws, Henry and Hattie, running the well-known Preston Turkey Farm, later to become a dairy on Central Rd.
Together, Stanley and Maxine raised four sons: Duane (Karen) of Mentor, Ohio, Martin (Linda) both deceased, Keith (Paula), and Glenn (Suzy) both of Quincy. Jukka Muurimaki, from Helsinki, Finland, came as an exchange student in 1970, and has become a dearly beloved member of the family. Maxine was known as Grandma Preston to 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
In 1960, Maxine went to Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek and completed LPN school. From 1963 to 1980 Maxine worked at Community Health Center in Coldwater as a nurse in Ortho and then in the Pediatric Unit. Some of Maxine's fondest memories were the years that she and Stanley served with S.O.W.E.R.S (Servants On Wheels Ever Ready), a Christian service organization. Maxine has enjoyed serving Branch Country through her participation in the Quincy United Methodist Church, Country Couples, 4-H, Farm Bureau, and Good Sam's.
The family of Maxine Preston invites the community to visitation services from 2-4 and 5-7 p.m. Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Quincy. A celebration of Maxine's life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 29 at the Quincy United Methodist Church. Memorial gifts may be made to the Quincy United Methodist Memorial Fund or to Branch County 4-H Foundation.
Arrangements are entrusted to Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Quincy.
