Mrs. Nina Margaret (Julian) Drake Obituary
Nina Margaret (Julian) Drake, of Allen, MI passed away Sunday, October 16, 2016 at Coldwater Hospital. She was born July 9, 1921 in Mason, MI to Edward and Clara Margaret (Demongeot) Julian.

Nina graduated from Frontier High school in Frontier, MI. Growing up in the era of the Great Depression; she had a lifelong concern for injustice and those in need of help. She enjoyed auctions, antiquing, travel, friends, and lunches with her birthday group. During the 1950's Nina was a dairy farmer and 4-H leader. She became a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Reading unit #360 where she remained a member until her death. From 1966 to 1974, she was the president of Local No. 1424 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers while employed at Wagner Industries in Reading, MI. In 1968, she was a delegate to the democratic presidential convention and numerous state conventions; she had also served as a former chairperson of the Hillsdale County Democrats. From the year 1976 until her retirement in 1986, she worked for the Department of Mental Health for the state of Michigan at the Coldwater Regional Center and was recognized as a lifetime member of the State Employee Retirees Association.

Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Drake (Blocki) of Grosse Pointe and Hillsdale County, Joan M. Drake (Day) of Bullhead City, AZ; one son, Julian E. Drake of Monroeville, IN; daughter-in-law, Eva; seven grandchildren, Michelle, Elizabeth (Perrin), Adrienne, Calie, Josh, John (Carrie) and Victoria; six great-grandchildren, Alexandria, Eleanor, Maria, Wesley Michael, Celeste and Olivia; and three nephews, John, Victor and Tom.

Nina was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Jean Ellen Drake (Lockwood); a son, John Michael Drake; six siblings, Edna, William, Victor, Bernard "Speck," Larry and Edward: her husband, Gene; and two grandsons, John Robert Day and Andrew Michael Blocki.

A memorial service for Nina will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Eagle Funeral Home – George White Chapel in Reading. The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 12 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
