Raymond Clyde Denning, 91, was born in the family farmhouse in Jonesville, Michigan on March 21, 1925, the son of Clyde and Edna (Stevens) Denning. He passed away on February 19, 2017 in Sebring, Florida

He married Evelyn Perrin on August 20, 1950 and had 51 years together before her passing in 2001.

On August 28, 2004 he married Catherine (Spier) Mercer and she survives. Also surviving are his children, Steve (Kathy) Denning, Bonnie (Jack) Marsh and Doug (Bambi) Denning, all of Jonesville; his step-children, Sandy (Mike) Seykell, Scott (Robin) Mercer, Steve Mercer and Jeff (Shelly) Mercer; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Everett (Fern) Denning; sister, Nancy (Jim) Gowell and several beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Marion (Hank) Denning and nephew, Garland Denning.

Ray was a dairy farmer until his retirement, and then he moved to Williamsburg, MI. He loved wood working, including helping to build their retirement home and some of the furniture for it. In the winter he loved to snowmobile, including trips to the UP and Yellowstone. In the summer he loved to dune buggy with his family and take fishing trips to Canada and to a special fish camp near Marquette. He also loved to travel and visited all 50 states with Evelyn.

After marrying Cathy, he settled in her home on Lake LeAnn, and enjoyed having the family over to take pontoon rides and enjoy the water. Together they went camping, snowmobiling, to concerts and loved dancing. They purchased a house in Sebring, FL to enjoy the winters. Ray loved his family and always had stories to tell and was a great role model. He liked to play cards, enjoyed the outdoors and remained very active until his last couple years. He was a past member of the Snow Spiders Snowmobile Club, The Michigan Snowmobile Association, The Hillsdale County Conservation Club, The National Rifle Association and the Michigan Milk Producers Association. He served on the Hillsdale County Planning Commission and as a trustee for Moscow Township.

Funeral services for Raymond Denning will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Doug Black officiating. Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, at Moscow Plains Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
