Richard P. Champion Obituary
Richard P. Champion of Jackson, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 8, 1929 in Branch County, Michigan to William and Bessie (Wendorf) Champion.
Richard is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary (Randall) Champion; one son, Richard D. (Joan) Champion; three grandchildren, Nichole Champion, Racquel (Duane) Mackey and Richard Dale Champion; nine great grandchildren, Sydney, Kimberly, Tommy, Cora, Danielle, Victoria, Avaline, Chylynn and Race; one sister, Helen Morris and one brother, William E. Champion.
He was preceded in passing by his parents; seven brothers, Donald, Arthur, John, Harvey, Leroy, Leonard and Lester; and two sisters, Verna and Ruth Ann.
Richard enjoyed flying radio control airplanes, riding motorcycles and driving stock cars. He raced at many tracks including Butler Motor Speedway. He loved to spend time with his family and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Richard also enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Richard P. Champion will be held at the Hampton Funeral Home in Hanover at 1 p.m. Friday, November 10, 2017 beginning with Pastor Dave Cornwell officiating. Interment will follow at the Horton Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, November 9 at the funeral home in Hanover.
Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice.
