Robert R. "Bob" Spahr Obituary
Robert R. "Bob" Spahr, almost 81, passed way August 16, 2017 at Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence in Battle Creek. Bob was born August 26, 1936 at Round Lake in Allen, Michigan, the fifth son of Ross and Alberta (Shiffler) Spahr.
He went all 13 years to Pittsford Schools, graduating in 1955 and attended Adrian College. Bob was in the U.S.C.G. from 1958-1962; at Cape May, New Jersey for training, Groton, Connecticut for Electronics School, Portland, Maine aboard a weather cutter, stationed in the Philippines for a year, Traverse City, and lastly in San Francisco, Treasure Island aboard a sea going tug for rescue.
On February 18, 1961 Bob married Rose Fazekas. He was a devoted husband to his surviving wife, Rose of 56 years. A loving father to his three surviving children, Candie Spahr of Hillsdale, Mark Spahr of Ann Arbor and Lisa (Marc) LaClair of Yucca Valley, California. Bob is survived by two brothers, Norman (Glenna) Spahr of Osseo, Mike (Kim) Spahr of Largo, Florida and a sister, Sandy (Bill) Tait of Hastings, Michigan; and two sisters-in-law, Joan Spahr and Ima Spahr.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Darwin, George, Lyle and Dick; sister, Dorla Meehan; sisters-in-law, Colleen Spahr and Mary Ann Spahr and brother-in-law, Jerome Meehan.
In 1998 Bob retired from Waldron Industries after 21 years. In retirement Bob enjoyed watching sports on TV, playing computer card games and reading. Bob enjoyed golfing, and even had a hole-in-one. He enjoyed browsing antique shops, shopping at his favorite bargain stores, and going to the Saturday morning Hillsdale Fair Grounds sale. He loved gardening, especially growing flowers, feeding the birds, eating out, and visiting with his many friends. Bob was also quite a handyman and he built a two story, four bedroom home for his family. His kindness, hugs and kisses touched many lives and he will be dearly missed by so many. His great generosity showed when he donated his kidney to his oldest daughter.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 21, 2017, at the Hillsdale First United Methodist Church with Pastor Pat Brook officiating. Interment will follow at the Lakeview Cemetery in Hillsdale. The family will receive family and friends for visitation from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
