Robert Wayne Hopkins Obituary
Robert Wayne Hopkins, 87 of Hillsdale, passed away Friday, September 8, 2017 at Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility. He was born August 6, 1930 in Hillsdale to Blake and Alice (German) Hopkins. Robert married Nadine Dow on October 11, 1953 and she preceded him in death on November 2, 2011.
Robert attended Frontier Schools and served his country in the United States Army as a cook in a M.A.S.H. unit during the Korean Conflict. For 34 years, Robert worked as a repairman and installer for the Camden Hillsdale Telephone Company. During his retirement, he enjoyed cooking at McDonald's in Montpelier. Robert enjoyed bowling, hunting, gardening and reading. He also enjoyed volunteering for the Waldron Athletic Boosters and traveling to Amway conventions with his wife. Robert dearly loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Robert is survived by two daughters, Denise Hopkins of Shelbyville, Tennessee and Dona (Perry) Lashaway of Osseo; son, Dennis (Peggy) Hopkins of Cambria Township; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a sister, Phyllis Wagner of Hillsdale.
In addition to his wife, Nadine, Robert was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Iola Mitchell, Barbara Morrison and Beverly Spieth and a brother, A.J. Easterday.
A memorial visitation for Robert Hopkins will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, September 14, 2017 at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale. Graveside services with military honors will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, September 15, 2017 at Cambria Cemetery #2 with Pastor Tim Gorniak officiating.
