Ronald Edgar Wasnich Obituary
Ronald Edgar Wasnich, 98, of Hillsdale, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017, at Drew's Country Living in Hillsdale, surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 25, 1918, at home in Woodbridge Township to Leo Leslie and Laverta (Cramton) Wasnich. Ronald married his high school sweetheart on March 23, 1940. Gladys preceded him in death March 3, 2011, just prior to their 71st anniversary.

Ronald graduated from Hillsdale High School on June 13, 1935. Ronald worked for the Co-Op prior to his joining the U.S.Navy Seabees in 1940. He served in over 27 South Sea Islands before returning home. He worked for Spicers in Hillsdale upon his return. While he and his wife lived at Cub Lake he assisted in managing the Cub Lake Skating Rink. Later he drove truck for Mobil Oil for over 30 years. Ron and his wife, Gladys, ran the Hillsdale Mobil Bulk Plant for several years. He became a substitute rural postal carrier for the Osseo Post Office in 1967. During that time he worked for Tuckers Well Drilling of Hillsdale. In 1975, he became a full-time carrier for the US Postal Service, retiring on March 7, 1980.

Ronald faithfully attended the United Brethren Church in Hillsdale, until his move to Country Living Assisted Care in January 2016, where he enjoyed fellowship of bible study and services provided there weekly. He also was a member of the Hillsdale Legion, Good S.A.M.S. Club, Michigan Chapter of Snowbirds and enjoyed hunting and the outdoors.

Ronald enjoyed traveling and camping with his wife and family throughout the United States and Canada. After retirement he and his wife spent their winters in Florida or the southwest. He loved the outdoors whether enjoying nature in this backyard, picking fruits and vegetables or just watching birds. Often while at Country Living, he could be found on the deck with his binoculars watching "his" birds.

He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl (Richard) Church of Reading and his son, Dennis (Carol) Wasnich of Montpelier, Ohio; five grandchildren, Andrea (Jim) McCormick of Jonesville, Brent Church of Reading, Jennifer (Chad Youngs) Westfall of Reading, Christopher (Caryn) Wasnich of Defiance and David Wasnich of Montpelier, Ohio; ten great-grandchildren Cody Church of Paducah, KY, Kalie Spencer and Noah McCormick of Jonesville, Braeden Westfall of Reading, Asiah (Justin) Sharp of Adrian, MI, Mason Wasnich, Brianna Demics of Toledo, Aaron Demics of Defiance, OH, Andrew and James Garrett of Montpelier, OH and three great-great grandchildren. He is also is survived by one sister-in-law, Vivian (Carter-Wasnich) Miller of Hillsdale as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Gladys, his parents, two sisters, Fola (Wilson) Allgire and Twyla (Clarence) Jackson and one brother, Norval Wasnich.

Funeral services for Ronald will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 17, at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Reading. Interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Reading. The family will receive friends for visitation on 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Michigan Audubon Bird Association or Donor's choice.
