Ruth (Katzenmeyer) Parker Obituary
Ruth Parker, age 85, of Rochester Hills and formerly of Hillsdale, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2018 in Rochester Hills. She was born June 13, 1932 in Hillsdale to Karl and Miriam (Hastings) Katzenmeyer. Ruth married James Parker on June 15, 1955 and he preceded her in death on December 11, 2017.
Ruth graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1950 and from Michigan State University in 1954. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hillsdale, Hillsdale Women's Club and Hillsdale Garden Club. Ruth served and was past-president of the Hillsdale College Board of Women Commissioners, the Hillsdale Salvation Army Advisory Board, the Hillsdale Hospital Auxiliary and the American Red Cross, providing service to the military.
Survivors include four children, Kimberly (David) Kusel of Ridgewood, N.J., Julie (James) Stevenson of Lake Bluff, IL, Tracey Parker of Birmingham and Todd (Kristen) Parker of West Bloomfield; eight grandchildren, Matthew and Stephanie Kusel, Anne and Caroline Stevenson and Parker, Harrison and Griffin Watt and Allison Parker and a sister, Ann (James) Touse of Jackson.
In addition to her husband, James Parker, Ruth was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial services for James and Ruth Parker will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church in Hillsdale with Pastor Scott Cress officiating. Family interment will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsdale. The family will receive friends for visitation from 6-9 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2018 at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
Memorial contributions are suggested to First Presbyterian Church of Hillsdale or the Board of Women Commissioners Hillsdale College Scholarship Fund.
