Shirley A (Fireoved) Bratton Obituary
Shirley A. Bratton, age 89, of Hillsdale, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at her home in Hillsdale, following a long battle with a blood disorder. She was born October 27, 1927 in Reading, Mi. to Donald & Opal (Eichler) Fireoved.
Shirley grew up in Reading, she was in the Reading all school band where she played a cornet. She was also the Drum Major for the Reading Marching Band. In 1945, in her senior year of high school, the family moved to Hillsdale, where her father started Reading Brass Co. In the fall of 1945 she attended Stephens College at Columbia, Missouri. There she majored in music and art and took their special course in Aeronautics, where she earned her private pilot's license. Shirley was a former member of the First United Methodist Church and was also a former member of the Hillsdale Garden Club.
Shirley is survived by her son, Randy Bratton of Hillsdale, grandchildren, Kersten Cook, Breann Bratton, Ashley Bratton, Laura Ammons and Kevin Bratton; great-grandchildren, Jase & Charlie Bratton, Kyra & Keilan Calderwood and Madison & Gracen Ammons; and a daughter-in-law, Wendy Baker.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Dr. Lee Bratton.
Funeral services for Shirley Bratton will be at 2 p.m. Monday, at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Dr. Samuel Wickard officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsdale. The family will receive friends for visitation from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home.
