Shirley J. (O'Rea) Russell Obituary
Shirley J. Russell, age 93, of Onsted, formerly of Addison, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018, at her home.
She was born on August 28, 1924, in Detroit, Michigan to Hugh "Angus" and Vera M. O'Rae. She married Francis Marnell in 1947, and he preceded her in death in 1962. She was then married to Royce H. Russell for the past 52 years. Shirley lived her early life in the Detroit area, she lived in Addison for thirty five years, fourteen years in North Adams and in Onsted for the past six years. She graduated from Addison High School in 1942. Shirley worked for the former J.L. Hudson Department Store in Detroit. She then worked for the Ford Motor Company's River Rouge Plant for several years, Addison Products for 22 years and then B&R Apartment Services in Ann Arbor. Shirley was Past Matron of the Addison O.E.S. Lodge #217, former member of the Addison Congregational Church in Addison, member of the Irish Hills Community Church in Onsted. She enjoyed flowers, crafts, baking, shopping and exercising and lifting weights. Her children and grandchildren were her life.
Surviving besides her husband Royce are two daughters, Bonnie Potts and Jim O'Neil of Addison, Shelly Stanton of Coldwater, one son, Denny Marnell of Addison, seventeen grandchildren, thirty four great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, one brother, Angus "Bud" Kittle of Rose Lake, Michigan, two sisters, Betty Good of North Adams, Evelyn Brainard of Onsted, several nieces, nephews, cousins and the family pet "Sassy."
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, one son, William "Butch" Marnell, one grandson, William Marnell, Jr., two brothers, Wilson Kittle, Harold Kittle, one sister, Alice Damron and her son-in-law, John Stanton.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, February 8, 2018, at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison. The visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday. Cremation will take place after the funeral services.
