Susan Elizabeth Packer, born December 31, 1946, the daughter of Gordon and Louise Packer, and step-daughter of Mary Blanche Packer, passed away at her residence in Hillsdale at 70 years of age on October 21, 2017. Born in Detroit, Susan was raised in Litchfield, and graduated from Litchfield High School. She earned a Bachelor's Degree from Hillsdale College and a Master's Degree in Education from Michigan State University. She dedicated her life to the education of children, working in the Hillsdale school system for many years, including years teaching kindergarten at St. Anthony's Catholic School, and Mauck Elementary School.
Susan is survived by her brother, Lee Packer; sister, Melinda (Packer) Ziegler, as well as seven nieces and nephews whom she regarded as her own children: Shelly (Richard) Pickren, Christopher (Robyn Mace) Packer, Carly (Bonifacio) Rodriguez, Timothy (Michelle) Packer, Nicholas (Riley Murphy) Packer, Kathryn (Frank Lettiere) Ziegler, Christina (Matthew) Duthie, Sarah (Matteo) Pierotti, and Mark (Alessandra) Ziegler, as well as many great nieces and nephews whom she deeply adored. Susan was a beloved and important part of her family and friends lives. Her thoughtfulness, creativity, kind heart, and child-like spirit brought so much joy to those who knew and loved her.
Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, October 25, at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Litchfield. A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for 11 a.m., Thursday, October 26, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale followed by a luncheon in the parish hall at St. Anthony's. Interment will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery in Litchfield in the afternoon.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Hillsdale County Community Foundation for a scholarship in Susan's name to be used for a student interested in becoming a teacher.
