Thelma Ruth Word Obituary

CAMDEN - Thelma Ruth Word, 100, longtime Camden Township resident, passed away Saturday June 25, 2016 at Evergreen Manor Nursing Home in Montpelier, OH. She was born August 5, 1915 in Fremont IN to William Clarence and Lucy Ann (McDougle) Hassett. Thelma graduated from Edon High School and worked in the housekeeping department at the Hillsdale Community Health Center for 15 years. She belonged to the Montgomery United Methodist Church, the UMW, and the Reading Extension Club. Thelma enjoyed reading, word searches, gardening, and 4-H.

On April 17, 1938 she married Kenneth L. Word, and he preceded her in death March 4, 1999.

Together, they owned and operated the Camden Locker Plant and were active in the Camden Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include her daughters, Sharon (Raymond) Rigelman of Camden, Karen Troxell of Montgomery; sons, Bill (Mary) Word of Camden, Wayne (Charlene) Word of Edon OH; sister, Violet Lemmon of Edon OH; twelve grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, son-in-law Tom Troxell, and great-granddaughter Allyson Word.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at Noon at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel, Reading. Interment will follow in Camden Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled
